'FACE' can be a method to represent or symbol something. As a Korean, considered what embodies Korea's distinct beauty. There are hangul, hanbok, traditional hanok, Goryeo Celadon, and Joseon white porcelain are mostly the majority of traditional items. They show sentiments like "unaffected natural," "harmony," and "margin and elegance" from Korea. However, some things capture Korean traditional culture well through the intense color that is the polar opposite of them and the terrifying and ridiculous unnatural feeling. Another face of Korea can be found in the traditional mask ‘TAL’.
‘TAL 탈’ is a Korean mask that represents an ancient person or animal in a unique expression, and it has two major historical and cultural meanings as a Korean cultural heritage. 'TAL’, which is worn on the face and used for traditional Korean cultural and artistic activities, represents the representative traditional Korean culture, which contains the joys and sorrows of Korean ancestors. It has spiritual and magical symbolism related to punishment and is accepted in folk beliefs. As a result, from an aesthetic standpoint, the viewer is captivated by the unique form and intense color. Furthermore, TAL play, which developed into a common people's culture in the late Joseon Dynasty, depicts the culture of the aristocracy in Korea during the Joseon Dynasty, and the common people can satirize the aristocrats' false consciousness and feel the emotions of Korea's unique satire and humor.
Convey the distinct artistry and emotions of Koreans through the work (TㅌAㅏLㄹ), which incorporates the characteristics of Korean masks, which are a blend of mystery, religion, and customs.
This work participated in the Taipei Art Book Fair in 2022.
